"Husband and Wife Electrocuted While Cutting Super Tree in a Joint Effort"
A tragic incident occurred today in the village of Dakshin Sagar Nal, located in the Sagar Nal Union of Moulvibazar Upazila, where a husband and wife lost their lives while attempting to cut down a super tree during a heated argument.
In the late afternoon, the local police station in Juri received a distress call, and upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless bodies of the couple inside an ambulance. Their young daughter, Farida Begum, a student of Fazila, stood nearby, sobbing inconsolably, as relatives and well-wishers tried to console her.
Farida Begum tearfully recounted that a few days ago, a super tree behind their residence had been uprooted by a strong storm. Today, around three o'clock in the afternoon, her mother, Esnu Bibi, took an axe and began cutting the tree's trunk. However, she was unable to move the tree alone. Her father, Maul Uddin, joined her to provide assistance. Tragically, as they were working together, the tree made contact with an overhead power line. Both of them were electrocuted on the spot. Esnu Bibi's cries for help were in vain, as the surrounding locals were unable to intervene in time. The concerned electricity department promptly cut off the power supply from the affected line.
Expressing her grief, Farida Begum said, "I witnessed the untimely death of my parents before my own eyes. The pain I feel as their child is indescribable."
Further, Farida Begum mentioned that she has four sisters and one brother, with her elder brother residing in Qatar. Three of her sisters are married and live in the same household along with her parents, her brother's wife, and herself.
The region where the incident took place falls under the jurisdiction of the Palli Bidyut Samiti (PDB), which supplies electricity to the area. Faruk Ahmed, the in-charge of the local PDB office, stated that upon receiving news of the accident from the local residents, they swiftly disconnected the power supply from the affected line.
Humayun Kabir, the Inspector (Investigation) of Juri Police Station, mentioned over the phone in the evening, "In response to the family's request, we are proceeding with the necessary procedures for handing over the bodies without conducting an autopsy. The case will be treated as an accidental death."
